Question
I just found a budgie, it flew into my car and stayed there till I got home, very warm and welcoming bird it was hot outside and I brought him into my basement with me he sat in front of the window for a couple hours then went behind the small mini bar fridge and sat beside the compressorin the back. He is still there and wont come out he looks like he is pearched and sleeping also still chirping every once and a while. I think he is just looking for heat,I turned the air conditioner off. Im getting a cage for him tomorrow and I left food and water beside the fridge for him, will he be ok? I dont want him to die..... : ( Shoul I grab him out? I dont want to scare him or give him a heart attack, but I hope he is not stuck... Help!

Answer
Hi, Jenny,

You need to move the frige and get the bird out.  The bird might be stuck, sick or other.  Therefore, you need to get the bird out and see what's what.  The bird will be frightened for a little bit, but if you don't get the bird out, it could end up worse.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
