Question
I have an eleven week old male ringneck I was told was a blue turquoise but I think the breeder was wrong. Boots has a turquoise body with some blue, white, grey, and purple all mixed in, his head is blue, green and yellow with greyish cheeks, his wings are blue, green and yellow on top and turquoise and white with a line of yellow feathers under the wings with blue turquoise flight feathers, and his tail is a bright turquoise blue. Any idea on what color he really is or is that what a blue turquoise is suppose to look like.
Answer He does appear to be a blue ringneck to me from his picture but as you will be able to see from the picture's I linked you to below they are very close in coloration.
Here is some information that should be helpful for you..
The plumage of the Blue males show shades of a delicate powder blue, with the color most vivid on the crown and forehead. The neck ring is an off white or pale gray edged with pure white. The bill is red, and the feet and legs gray. The female is entirely blue with no neck collar.
The Turquoise is a green with an overlay of fine, soft blue plumage that changes color depending on the angle of light striking the bird. The effect is almost iridescent in tone and color saturation.
This is a good picture of a male blue: ( just cut & paste link into your browser)
