Question
My daughter has a budgie that has laid 5 eggs.  She says that she can't clean the cage until after the birds have hatched.  I'm afraid that the cage will become very dirty and unhealthy for the birds.  Is there a way that the cage can be cleaned?  I appreciate your answer.8h344

Answer
yes, it needs to be cleaned, otherwise it will become a walking cesspit of disease and germs. You don't have to clean the nest (the birds have their own way of cleaning their nest) but replacing your paper or cage litter is needful.  A cage that has mating birds needs a tray and a bottom rack that can be removed for cleaning with a nest box/area that is secure so you can remove the cage tray and liner for cleaning without disturbing the nest.
