Question
Hello.I have a male budgie for over a year and reently a got another, the owner of the petshop that i bought it said that it was female. But i think its male. The old one is biting the new one and it is stepping on it.So,i searched and found that i should put them in different cages for 12 hours.I did it but the old one is still attacking it.What should i do?

Answer
Mature males have a bluish cere - the knob above the beak with the nose holes in it - and the females have a pinkish one. Twelve hours is not nearly enough. You should separate them into different cages next to each other for at least two weeks. These birds are territorial and need to get used to each other. But there is still no guarantee that they will get along.
