Question
I have been reading about birds and I was wondering what is the best bird to start with?

Answer
Hi, Ryan.  Thanks for posting.

The parrot you should choose would be one that fits best in your lifestyle and your personal desires.  Some parrots require much more human interaction than others, some parrots have special dietary requirements, some parrots can be very loud, etc., etc.  If this would be your first parrot, I'd recommend starting out with something like a parakeet (these parrots are very underrated as good pets) or a cockatiel.  If you don't have to worry about noise, you might want to try a conure of some type (sun conure, nanday, jenday, etc.).  There are hundreds of species of parrots!  Visit my website if you want in order to get more information about parrots in general:

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
