Question
I have a breeding pair of blue-crown conures they seem so nervous & wild what are all the steps I can make to have me some babies?

Answer
Hi, Leon.  Thanks for posting!

The first thing you need to do is learn all you can about parrots, and blue crowns in particular, BEFORE you attempt to breed these birds.  There are many things you need to know because there are many things that can go wrong when breeding parrots, and you need to know how to handle these situations!  Also, have a plan as to what you will do with any babies (sell or give them away, etc.).  You'll need to handfeed any babies so they will be tame enough (you'll need to pull them completely from the parents at about 10 days of age and handfeed them).  This means you'll need to set up a brooder, etc., in order for them to stay warm.  Babies need to be handfed at least 4 times per day.

You'll need a cage with a nesting box set up.  You can wait until breeding season begins next spring because it will take you that long to learn what you need to learn.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
