Question
I have a male lovebird [part of breeding pair.
He has a damage Wing
The wound is at the base of the wing next to the
body going under the wing and across the back.
Have taken to Vet [injected] but has not improved.
I have sort on-line Vet advise and have been told
that the bird needs support to its healing & Immune System and to use Guardian Angel in the water ?
Could you advise where I may purchase this product ?
Or do you know of any other product which will help with this problem

Answer
Hi, Dudley.  Thanks for posting.

I've never heard of Guardian Angel (also can't find on internet).  I recommend you take your lovebird back to the avian vet who treated him if he is not getting better (or to a different avian vet).  Your lovebird most likely needs antibiotics (to ward off infection) and/or other assistance depending on the severity of the wound.

I like to use Echinacea (human immune system enhancer) or Spirulina to boost my parrot's immune systems.  These products can be sprinkled on/mixed into birds' soft foods.  Use sparingly.  However, these products won't be effective against any type of bacterial infection, etc.

I hope your lovebird improves soon.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
