Question
My parents have parakeets. The female has laid an egg and is always keeping it warm for about a month but how long does it take for an egg to hatch?

It takes about 18 days from the date the female starts incubating her egg(s) for the egg to hatch. However, this is only if the egg is fertile to begin with and incubation was properly completed. Is this a single female laying infertile eggs or did she mate with a male mate when she laid this egg? Usually, keets lay up to 6 eggs, so I'm concerned about her only laying 1 egg.

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.).
