Question
My Parakeet made a whole in my wall and now she has been acting really werid i think she's sick because of the paint.
On her beak she had like dirt or paint all bunched up but i got it out now what do I do , do I wait and see what happends or take her to a vet?

Answer
Hi, Nicole,

What kind of behavior do you call "acting really weird?"  Yes, you need to take this bird to a certified avian vet ASAP.  There could be lead in the paint that is making your bird sick.  If your bird was eating drywall, this could also make her sick.  Your bird could die while you are waiting to see what happens.

This is why it's important for people to set boundaries for their birds.  They can get into lots of trouble by being allowed to roam free in our homes.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
