Birds--General/Parakeet

Question
I have a female parakeet named Blooreguard Q. Kazoo,(aka Bloo) I don't have a problem taking her out of her cage, cause we are like sisters! But whenever i take her out, she flies to the top of my Gerbils cage, which is like a screen. She also climbs on the fireplace screen too. I don't know why she does that, but when she gets on it, she rubs her head on the screen, and screams her head off! I want to know why she does that.

Answer
Hi, Hannah.  Thanks for posting!

I don't have any idea why your keet is doing what she is doing!  Is she screaming as if in pain or as if rubbing her head on the screen feels good to her?  If you can provide more details about what's going on, I might be able to help more.

Thanks.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
