Question
Hi, my friend gave me his parakeet cause he was going away for a while in florida. I had own 4 birds in the past and they lasted for a while. But when my friend handed me the bird, it died in a couple of days. Was it because of the enviorment? And the wierd part was when it was dieing its head was shaking for hours. And then when i held him in my hand as he was dieing, he started fliping out. Eventually i left him alone in his cage with me still supervising him and he died. I was afraid he had carried a disease because his head was shaking, so i called up a vet and the vet told me to dispose of sammy imediately. I bathed him only once with a lite mist. Changed his water daily(used bottled). And his food ran out so i went to get new food for him. Was it coincidential that sammy died in my hands (like he was near death) when my friend adrian gave it to me, or was it something else....please help so i know how it died. My friend and his parents are making acquisations on me because of sammy.

Answer
Hi, Jeffrey,

I'm sorry about the loss of this bird, but I don't know why it died.  I'm not an avian veterinarian and even an avian veterinarian would need to do a necropsy (animal autopsy) on the bird's body in order to try to determine why it died.  If you want to try to find out why it died, take the body within 48 hours to an avian veterinarian for a necropsy.
