Question
My Lovebird broke off her bottom beak Will it adapt?  Will the beak grow back? What will happen to my poor baby? Will Her mate try to Kill or Try to Nurse? Should I seperate them.

Please answer as soon as possible

Answer
Michelle.

You need to get this bird to an avian veterinarian immediately.  This bird won't be able to eat or drink and it will die if you don't get avian vet treatment for this bird.  I think you need to separate her from the other bird because it cannot defend itself.

Do not hesitate seeking medical attention for your bird right away.  Not a cat/dog vet, but a certified avian veterinarian (an exotic animal vet trained in treating birds).  www.aav.org for help in locating one in your area.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
