Question
my lovebirds wont go near there nest box, whats there problem?
thanx i really appreciate this web site and your help

Answer
Hi, Sophia,

I don't know why...you'll need to provide more details about the setup so I can try to determine what the problem might be.  Are they pair-bonded, i.e., does the male feed the female beak-to-beak?  If not, they aren't ready to breed.  Have you put any type of substrate in the nesting box?  If so, remove it and place nesting materials in the cage and allow the birds to make their own nest inside the nesting box.  Are the birds too young?  Lovies need to be about 24 months old before allowing to breed for the first time.  Are you sure you have a male/female pair?  Lovies need to be DNA sexed.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
