Hello,
I am new to this website and would like to ask a  question,  Is it posible to tame a six month old budgie?  Well, I've had my budgies for not too long but they are not hand raised so is it posible to tame a six month old budgie?  some of my friends say it is but I'm not sure if they are right.  Help needed!  THANKS, Laura.

Hi, Laura.  Thanks for posting.

Yes, it is possible with time and patience and knowledge of what you are doing, however, it will be difficult if you have more than 1 budgie.  This is because birds prefer other birds to humans.  Trying to get them to focus on being tame with a human when they have each other will not be an easy task and you'd have to work separately with all the budgies you have and not just one.  You'd also have to keep their wing flight feathers clipped if you want to tame them.

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
