Question
it's seen a vet and vet said give it a bath but its had bathing for three years and the bumps grow out of where the feathers grow out and there hard what can we do to help this bird it's a boy and it three years old and eat very good  alot of veggies and sead

Answer
Hi, Anna.  Thanks for posting.

I have no experience with canaries, so I can't help with canary-specific problems.  I've never experienced a parrot with this type feather problem, so I can't be much help here.

Did you take this bird to a bird (avian) vet (a regular dog/cat vet can't properly treat birds)?  I'm wondering why you've waited 3 years to address this continuing problem?  Obvioiusly, the previous vet has misdiagnosed what's going on and might have been able to assist more if s/he knew the problem has continued.  Sometimes with birds, it's a matter of eliminating one thing at a time.

I recommend you take your canary to a qualified avian vet for immediate medical evaluation.  Otherwise, the bird could suffer if it can't grow feathers.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
