Question
is there anyway i can house a sun conure and a cockatiel together if they have large cage? like about 50" x 38" x 40"? and they won't be in the cage much except for at night and if i'm working, which i only have a part time job (im only 17)

Answer
Hi, Kristen.  Thanks for posting!

It just depends on how these 2 birds get along together.  If they don't get along together, it doesn't matter what size the cage is.  Tiels are gentle, sweet birds.  Conures can be gentle and sweet, too, but their beaks are so much bigger than a tiel's beak and conures can be more aggressive.  One bite from the conure and your tiel can be killed or seriously injured.  Also, their dietary requirements are a bit different.  If you can provide both bird's dietary requirements in the same cage, you could house them together, provided they get along well together.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
