Question
my female laid 3 eggs and is sitting on them on the bottom of the cage...what should I do?  I don't have a breeding box or nest...she has made her own out of newspaper...do I need any special bedding material for when they hatch?  I don't have a clue as to what I need to do at this point, they are my grandsons birds. I am just caring for them for a while.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi, Becky.  Thanks for posting!

Does the bird have a mate?  Do you plan on giving away or selling any babies that might hatch?

At the moment, you don't need to do anything.  Please respond to my questions above, and I'll help you as best I can.

Thanks.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
