Question
I had two parakeets( a female and a male). The female died yesterday and the male is all alone. It hasn't stop eating and im wondering why. Do you think you can help me?

Hi, Barcin.  Thanks for posting!

I'm sorry about your loss.  Do you know why the female died?  The male is most likely eating like this because he is stressed out from the loss of the female, especially if these 2 birds were pair-bonded.  Or perhaps the female kept the male from eating as much as he needed and now he's going crazy!  This does happen.  Hopefully, you have the male on a proper diet.

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons.
