Question
My female parrotletjust laid a clutch of 4 eggs.  I have no malefor her to breed with.  She is now sitting on them as they are to hatch.  When would be a good time to take the eggs out of the cage, as I do not think that they are fertile since there is no male.  This is my first bird that I have had to lay eggs.  Thanks for any help.

Answer
Hi, Anthony.  Thanks for posting!

Your female is laying infertile eggs.  Leave them where she has laid them and let her abandon them on her own.  Once she abandons them, you can remove and destroy them.  If you remove them before she abandons them, she might start laying again.  Be sure she has cuttlebone available.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
