Question
my parakeet is all of a sudden regurgitating all the time even when im not around. what can i do for him. he goes to his food dish eats and starts all over again.

Answer
Hi, Carol.  Thanks for posting!

Is this keet with another bird and/or are there other birds in the home?  Is this bird showing any signs of illness, such as sitting fluffed up when not sleeping, sitting on bottom of cage, droppings look different, acting differently, etc.?  Also, is there any seed in the regurgitation?  What type of diet is s/he on?  Is there a mirror in the cage?

Sounds like you're familiar with a bird regurgitating to you in order to show it's affection for you, but this can also happen when a bird just hears your voice (doesn't have to actually see you).  Is this happening?

Come back with more details.  Thanks.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
