Question
my parakeet's nose(above the beek)is swallon and looks like is shaking like if is cold.is he sick?

Answer
Hi, Renato,

I don't know...you haven't provided enough information.  Are you sure this bird is male?  If this parakeet is a female and her cere (the colored area above the beak) is dark brown and crusty looking, this means she is in breeding condition.  On the otherhand, if the cere is actually swollen and the bird is shaking, the bird might be sick.  Birds shake in order to regulate their body temperatures....the same as humans do when we become too cold.  Therefore, I don't know if this bird is sick of not.  Perhaps you can judge better with the above information and since you are there with the bird and I'm not.  If in doubt, seek certified avian veterinarian assistance for this bird ASAP.  If the bird is sick and you are noticing this sickness, the bird has been sick too long and needs vet assistance right away.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
