Question
hi my names courtney and i have a blue budge and i want it to talk but i don't no how to teach it can you please help me

Answer
Hi, Courtney.  Thanks for posting!

Is your budgie a male?  Females rarely learn to talk...actually, birds mimic speech, they don't actually talk.  If you want to teach your bird to mimic, you have to repeat to your bird over and over again the words/phrases you want it to learn.  Do this as often as you can every day.  If s/he wants to "talk," it will.  If not, it won't.  However, be aware that not all birds learn to mimic speech, especially little budgies.  There are no guarantees of "talking" ability in any parrot you buy.

Expertise

I`ve been raising/breeding/handfeeding/selling parrots for over 20 years (parakeets/budgies, cockatiels, 6 subspecies of conures, parrotlets, amazons, lovebirds, etc.). I've been published in "Budgies" and "Cockatiels" offered by Bow Tie Productions, and have written avian articles for publication in England. I can provide advice in raising healthy birds, handfeeding/weaning babies, some health problems (although I'm NOT an avian veterinarian), nail/beak/wing clipping, general husbandry, etc. I also have experience with racing/showing homing pigeons. I cannot diagnose specific illness over this website. If you suspect your bird is ill or if you have an emergency, contact an avian veterinarian or emergency pet clinic ASAP.
