Birth Control/Birth control pills for migraines...

Question
Don't know if you can help me, but it's worth a shot!

I've been on birth control pills for about 14 years or so now.  For about 1 year I've been using them also as a means to control menstrual migraines (skip the placebo week in packs one and two, then take the placebos in pack three).  It was going well, only some spotting once in a great while, until now.  In September, I wasn't supposed to get my period.  I got it - full blown.  Early October I was supposed to get it and did.  Now again as I'm about to skip my placebo week, I believe I'm getting my period.  I told my doctor about it last month and she told me to let her know if it happens again, which I will.  I'm just wondering why this is happening?  Any ideas?  I do take it around the same time every night (give or take an hour or two either way).

Thanks for any help!

Answer
Hi Kate,

Thanks for your question. Have you emailed me as well? I was thinking I had answered this question already. But anyway, if you want to email me, my address is DCHERYL51@yahoo.com
I don't agree with hormonal birth control, which birth control pills are. But if you were going to take birth control pills, I also don't think it is wise to take the pills differently than the instructions from the manufacturer say. So I wonder about a doctor telling you to skip the placebos. This will alter your period because of the hormones or the way your body accepts these. I believe in natural birth control methods, not including anything hormonal. So I would recommend that you tell your doctor what is happening and ask about another birth control method. Do you need to be on birth control at all? Just wondering. So hope this helps and email me so we can talk.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
