Birth Control/Necon 1 35

Question
Hi I just started birth control just over 1 month ago and have thus far been unable to get a few questions answered. Firstly, I was curious if I am protected the week after my period (when starting the second pack) or if the 7 day back up rule applies similar to when first starting birth control. Second, am I protected the week I have my period?

Answer
Hi Torry,

As long as you take the pill on time with no missed/late pills then you are protected both during the first week of a new pack and during the week you get your period. During the week you get your period, the level of hormones drop enough so that you have a withdrawal bleed, but not enough to cause you to start ovulating again. As long as you start the new pill pack on time, you will still be protected during the beginning of the pill pack.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.
