Question
Hey im just 16 and will be 17 in like five months. I'm not planning on having sex yet but i was wondering at what age i should start taking birth control?

Answer
Hi Mary,

You should start to consider taking birth control when you are ready to date and become sexually active. There is no correct age, it is based on when you feel you are ready. Regardless of whether you go on birth control or not, now may be a good time to make an appointment with your doctor just to discuss the different methods so you understand. There are many forms and not all are hormonal. Planned Parenthood is also a good place to discuss birth control and when to decide you are ready. They have a good site specifically for teens that can help you in making a decision:
