Birth Control/Mirena

Question
I had been on the mirena for 14 months. I used the restroom on Dec 15 and noticed light blood and this alarmed me because I have had no period on it. I then felt for the strings and they were lower so I tugged a little and it came straight out. So, now my concern is I had sex with my husband on the 13 should I be worried about being pregnant. I have barley spotted and do still have some cramping. I haven't had a period so don't know if I have even been ovulating.

Answer
Hi Crystal,
I think your chances of being pregnant are very small.  Even if the Mirena were sitting low, it still was releasing progesterone and preventing pregnancy, although perhaps less than if exactly in place.  If you could get the Mirena replaced fairly soon (within 5 days?) that would probably be ideal.
