Birth Control/Nuva ring and a unplanned pregnancy

Question
I am currently using the Nuva Ring as birth control. During the week that i was off of the nuva for my period me and my husband had unprotected sex.
Now i am experiencing some of the small signs of pregnancy, mood swings, cravings, some nausia, i am going to the bathroom more often and the aria by my ovaries feel tight... I am sick right now with Bronchitis, so i dont know if these symptoms are because im sick or if i am pregnant. I took a pregnancy test it came out negotive. My question is... Even if i am pregnant could the test come out negitive anyway because of the hormones in the Nuva?
And how soon is too soon to take a test?

Answer
Hi Jill,
The hormones in the NuvaRing will not affect the pregnancy test.  A pregnancy test will usually be positive 2 weeks after you get pregnant.  Usually symptoms of pregnancy don't start until 2 weeks after conception, so in general a pregnancy test will be positive by the time you get symptoms.  So my guess is you're not pregnant.  Repeating the test in one week might be wise if the symptoms persist.
