Birth Control/birth control pills for acne

Question
I have a daughter who will be 13 this month. She has had severe acne for the past year. We have tried everything OTC and prescription. The doctor talked about putting her on birth control pills (YAZ) to help treat this. Can she take this if she hasn't started her period yet? and if so, will it make her start her period?

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your question. I would not recommend putting a young lady or woman on the pill for acne. I have heard this happening more often and in my opinion, this is putting hormones in your body that are unnecessary and unhealthy. I feel that there must be an alternative to putting your daughter on the pill. Please seek a second opinion. I will try to do some research on this if you will please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and put ALLEXPERTS in the subject line.

Thanks
Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
