Birth Control/no period

Question
I have been off birth control now since Oct.  I had my period from the last pack of pills and now (Dec. 16) I still have yet to have a period.  My husband and I are trying to conceive and I have had a negative pregnancy blood test.  What can I do to have my period again so that we are able to get pregnant? Any suggestions would be helpful.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Erica,

Were you on the pill? For most hormonal methods, you should get your period again after 1-3 months (the depo shot can take longer, around 3-10 months). Unfortunately, right now the best thing for you to do is wait and see if your period arrives. Your body is still adjusting and may need a bit more time to start ovulation. Since it is possible for you to ovulate and become pregnant before you get your next period, I recommend waiting 2 weeks and retaking a pregnancy test. If after 3 months, you are not pregnant and still have not gotten a period, contact your doctor to discuss whether you should have some hormonal tests done.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.
