Birth Control/long period

Question
My period has been heavy for the past 9 days. I just started birth control pills for the first time on the 12th of april when I first started bleeding and it hasn't stopped. My normal period is 5 days long, and I'm 20 years old. Do you know why this is, and is it normal? I also just had unprotected sex on the 18th of April but am still bleeding, is there a chance of me getting pregnant? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Leanne,

I think there is a small chance of pregnancy but I can't really tell you on that. You need to check with your private physician. Or call 1-800-395-HELP or go to http://www.optionline.org to find a free pregnancy testing center in your area. If you are not in U.S., please go to http://www.heartbeatinternational/worldwide_directory.asp
and find the closest center to get a free test. I am a little concerned about your bleeding. Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and let me know what happens.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
