Birth Control/bleeding

Question
Is little bit of bleeding during intercourse normal? I am married since a year. Recently I found little blood in the outer part of the condom after intercourse. It must have come from her vagina. It happened several times. She was using an emergency contraceptive (levonorgestrel). Both me and my wife are upset about this. Is it normal or shall we visit a doc?

Answer
Roy,

A little bit of bleeding during intercourse is usually nothing to worry about, unless she was experiencing pain as well.

Otherwise, some bledding can occur for a number of reasons. Sometimes intercouse can cause tiny microscopic cuts inside the vagina, especially if she's a little on the dry side-which can sometimes happen when using a condom.

Also, since she has recently taken an emergency contraceptive, its also normal to experience some breakthrough bleeding as her body is adjusting to the burst of hormones.

I would say that you two have nothing to worry about. If it gets worse, doesn't go away in a couple weeks, or if she experiences pain with intercourse, I would suggest you see a doctor.

Thank you for the question, and sorry for my late response-my computer was down all weekend,
