Birth Control/Depo

Question
I been of my depo for almost 2 years. Can it still be working.

Answer
Hi Mercedes,

No, it is not still working as birth control, but it can take your body some time to adjust to a regular cycle. Ovulation usually resumes within 3-6 months of the last shot, but it could take longer. Your menstrual cycle can be irregular for up to a year or so, but this does not mean you are protected. After 2 years you should be back to a regular cycle, so if you are not you should contact your doctor.

If you have been trying to become pregnant since your last shot without success, I suggest contacting your doctor to discuss this. He/she can run some tests.

If you do not want to become pregnant you should use another method.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions, let me know.
