Birth Control/Mirena

Question
Good Morning,

My name is Karolyn and I am 26 yrs old and I have a 3yr old son. I went to my OB/GYN today and she was telling me about this new birth control called Mirena. I have not started the birth control yet and I have been reading some scare side affects. I do want more children one day and I am healthy and my periods are normal. Do you think I should try this new birth control?

Answer
Hi Karolyn,

Thanks for your question. The Mirena IUD has been around for a little while and there have been some possible serious side effects and risks.
I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control methods. I recommend Natural Family Planning and condoms. You can find more about NFP by googling it or doing an internet search. There also used to be an expert here on http://www.allexperts.com and her name is Ramona. She knew a lot about Natural Family Planning or perhaps you could ask your doctor. But I'm not sure that a lot of doctors know about NFP. They, in general, don't recognize the new research about hormonal birth control methods. Feel free to email me privately at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and I would love to talk to you more.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
