Birth Control/missed period on birth control

Question
I just started taking Yasmin. I started taking my placebo pills for the first time on Monday. It is now Thursday and I still have not started my period. Is that normal?

Answer
Hi Becki,

Thank you for your question. Yes, this is normal. Your period can arrive at any point within the placebo week. Some women may get it the first placebo day, others may not get it until near the end of the week.  Is this your first month of being on Yasmin, or any type of birth control pill? It can take your body a few months to adjust to being on the pill, so even if you get it late in the week this month, you may experience something different next month. Some women will experience a very light period on the pill that is more like spotting, or in some cases, no period at all. So even if you do not get your period at all this month, that does not mean anything is wrong. If you have been taking the pill correctly you are still protected. However, if you do miss this period, you may want to give your doctor a call next week just to discuss.

I hope this has helped. If you have further questions, let me know.
