Birth Control/How long do side-effects last?

Question
Hello Mia!

I've been taking Cerazette, a birth control pill containing Desogestrel, for about two years but quit two months ago due to side effects (low sex drive, weight gain etc).

I haven't had any periods while on the pill and last week I had my first one since quitting, but the sex drive is still low.

How long does it take for the hormone balance to be restored and for the side effects to disappear after you've stopped taking the pill?

Answer
Hi Anna,

For most women, it takes about 1-3 months for hormones to adjust back to pre-pill levels side effects to disappear. It can take longer for some. Since it has been 2 months for you, I recommend waiting another month to see if things get better. If not, give your doctor a call and see if he/she has any suggestions that will help while you wait for things to adjust.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions let me know.
