Birth Control - Marvalon 21 & taking continuously

Expert: Norman Solberg - 10/2/2009

Question
Hi I have been on Marvalon 21 for about 10yrs now and 3.5 months ago my doctor put me on continuous so I wouldn't get my period as she said there is no medial reason for a woman to not have a period, it would help with my migraines %26 heavy bleeding. For the most part it has up until the last 2 wks I have been having spotting and for the last 2 days seems like my actual period heavy again but I am still taking the pill continuously. My question is is this normal I thought as long as I took the pill continuously I would not have a period just some spotting on occasion.

Answer
Some women can take the pill continuously and get no bleeding, but most women will start bleeding at some point.  If it's slight you can try to ignore it.  If it's more than that, the best thing is to stop the pill for 4 days, let the period come, then re-start the pills.  You'll probably have just a few periods a year doing it that way.
