Birth Control - Sex with the pill, but no condom
Expert: Norman Solberg - 10/28/2009
Question I have been on Yaz for about a year now, and I take it at the same time every night, without missing a pill. My question is, if my partner does not use a condom once, but I am still taking the pill like I said above, and he ejaculates inside me, are my chances of pregnancy greatly increased? And, should I take Plan B afterward? Also, if this occurs the day before my period is supposed to begin, can I wait to see if I bleed, and will this prove that an egg has not been fertilized, or should I spring for the emergency contraceptive anyway? Thanks so much!
Answer Hi Megan,
The birth control pill is one of the most effective methods of birth control that we have, especially when taken every day without fail. In my opinion, the only reason for you to use condoms is to prevent STD's. I don't think you need Plan B. You're correct that if your period comes, that's good evidence that you're not pregnant. It may be possible to get pregnant taking the pill every day at the same time, but it's very rare. Most of the women that get pregnant on the pill have missed pills. Best wishes.
