Question
i just had a  baby 2 months ago and i had my 6 week FOLLOW up 3 weeks ago and i was not pregnant! they put me on the pill and i started taking it immediately! 3 days later i had unprotected sex with my husband! it is now 2 3 weeks later and i had some bleeding. its was sort of brown and then pink and then bright red! it was not a lot at all!!! but then it completely stopped! so i thought it might be implantation bleeding so i took a pregnancy test and it came out negative! so we celebrated and made love... but then right afterward i went pee and i had pink color discharge! what could this be?? could i be pregnant again? is 3 weeks after unprotected sex enough time to take a pregnancy? I NEED HELP!! PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE?? AND HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE BIRTH CONTROL TO ACTUALLY START WORKING?

Answer
Lots of women have some irregular bleeding in the first 2 months after having a baby.  And lots of women have some spotting or bleeding the first month or two on the pill.  The birth control pill generally takes 7 days to be effective.  A pregnancy test will generally be positive 2 weeks after conception, so I don't think you're pregnant.  The test would have shown it from the first time you had sex, and you were protected by the pill the second time.  Give it a little time and the irregular spotting will usually take care of itself.  Best wishes.
