Birth Control/Why is this happening?!

Question
I am on tri-cyclin birth control. The first day of my last mestruel cycle was April 8th, 2009. I did miss one day of my pills in early April, before my menstruel cycle. It is now May 22nd, 2009 and I still haven't gotten my period. 2 weeks ago I had post-coital bleeding but that stopped after a few days. Just yesterday I had some brownish spotting on my tissue. My breasts hurt, I've gained a little weight, I'm moody, I'm always tired, my back aches, I have head aches, I eat a lot.. which are all signs of a menstruel period coming, but also signs of pregnancy. I'm still taking my birth control. I took a first response pregnancy test that came out negative 3 weeks ago. 2 weeks ago I took a hospital pregnancy test and it was negative. Last week I took another first response test, and again it was negative. I figure there are 2 reasons for my sysmptoms.. pregnancy, or period. But the tests are negative and my period is still absent!! SO what do I do? Why is this happening? Are there any other reasons for it?

Answer
Hello Chelsea,

Have you started your period yet as I'm answering your question? I'm not a medical professional so I urge you to consult with your physician. If you are pregnant, you shouldn't be taking birth control pills because of the hormonal effect.

I have heard of delayed periods for reasons of eating habits and other things. But I would recommend to call or email a pregnancy resource center and ask them for advice. 1-800-395-HELP or go to http://www.optionline.org or http://www.heartbeatinternational.org/worldwide_directory.asp

Please email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and keep me updated. Try to relax and take care of yourself.
