Birth Control - birth control pill and diarrhea

Expert: Diane Cheryl - 6/27/2009

Question
Hello,
I take my pill everyday at 10PM. Last night at around 11:45PM I had diarrhea.  I heard that if you have diarrhea within 2 hours of taking your pill you should use back-up.  I will definitely do that but could I get pregnant?  Do I have to take another pill?  Is it considered missed?

Thank you!

Answer
Lauren,

I wouldn't worry much about missing one pill. And you really don't know if you missed it or that it went out of your system. So anyway, I'm not a doctor and you can consult yours but I would not get too stressed out about it. No birth control method is 100% safe anyway.
I don't recommend any kind of hormonal birth control method because of health reasons and risks and side effects. I only recommend condoms, Natural Family Planning and of course, abstinence. If you want to talk more, just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com so hope to hear from you soon.
