Birth Control - I lost a birth control pill!!

Expert: Diane Cheryl - 6/15/2009

Question
Okay, I was getting ready to take my birth control pill (Ortho Tri-Clycen Lo) and when I was getting some water, I dropped it down the sink!!! I've only missed a pill once before and I took it as soon as I remembered but now, since I can't get that pill back I don't know what to do, I know that when you vomit your pill or something like that you need to replace it with a pill from another pack but I don't have another pack yet. The pill was the 15th one, and it was the dark blue ones, before the green pills for my period. I only have 6 days until I am on the green pills. If I have sex since I won't be making the pill up that I lost, will I be protected??

Answer
Hi Kayla,

You can ask your doctor but I would recommend taking another pill from the same pack and then just go on and at the end you will miss one.

You are never 100% protected even if you take all your pills exactly correctly. There is no 100% method except abstinence. I don't recommend the birth control pills or any kind of hormonal birth control methods. There are risks and side effects (long-term and short-term). I don't know if you have experienced any yet but please take this under consideration.

If you want to talk by email, just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
