Birth Control/No period shot

Question
I am currently taking birth control in a pill form, and was considering switching to getting a shot instead.  Is it true that with the shot you no longer have periods?  And is the shot as effective as the pill?  And do you have any idea how much the shot costs compared to pills (mine run about $21 a month).  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for your question. I don't recommend birth control pills or the shot. Are you talking about depoprovera? I don't believe that any hormonal method is healthy for a woman's body. There are side effects and risks (short-term and long-term).

No, I don't know the cost of the shot. I can send you some information about the risks and side effects of various birth control methods if you like. Just email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and put ALLEXPERTS in the subject line.

Sincerely,
