Question
Hi.  I’ve been on the low dosage birth control pill, Tri Sprintec.  I’ve been
taking it for at least three years with normal periods each month.  However,
last month my period became super light almost like spotting (which has
never happened before). And right after I developed flu symptoms and took 2
pregnancy tests which said I wasn’t pregnant.  I still continued to have flu
symptoms of nasusea, dizzyness, loss of appetite, and headaches.  Now, just
started my period which is still super light again. I feel a little better but still
don't feel like my normal self.  What do you think is wrong with me?

Answer
Hey,

Pregnancy tests are very accurate, so it is unlikely you are pregnant, however, it sounds like there is something wrong.
I think you need to see a doctor about this, as you are showing many signs of being pregnant. While pregnant, you can still have light periods. It is uncommon, but it does happen.

As I see it, there are 3 possible reasons:
1. Pill side effects (Unlikely, however as you have been on it for so long)
2. Pregnancy (Pregnancy tests are usually accurate though, but can be wrong).
3. You are simply sick (but this wouldn't explain the light periods or spotting)

I think you should see your doctor as soon as possible.

Let me know how it goes,

Diana

Expertise

I love questions on condoms, the pill, what to do if contraception fails, if you could be pregnant, obtaining contraception (Even without parental permission). I have a lot of experience with teenagers. One thing I don't know too much about is the IUD, but I'm working on it. I really do care about the people that ask me questions! I don't mind lots of follow up, and I like to know if things turned out okay. I'll be with you every step of the way!
