Question
Hey Diana, hope you are having a great day! My question pertains to birth control and their effects. I was wondering if being on the pill as a teenager (18, in my case) could cause difficulties in any way, shape or form, for conceiving and having children in the future? 2 years ago I lost an ovary and fallopian tube because of a tumor like cyst, and I definitely don't want something hindering my ability to have children. I'm not sexually active, and only on the pill strictly for hormonal purposes. Thanks so much, looking forward to hearing from you.

Answer
Hey Joanne,

It's rare that my questioner is so cheerful:) You made my day.
It depends on your form of birth control. I'll go over the two main sorts.

The pill: This shouldn't affect your chances of having children at all. It make take a while to get pregnant after being on it for a long time (like maybe a couple of months till pregnancy occurs) but it definitly has no long term effects.
In fact, being on certain types of pills (such as Levlen) for extended periods of time is benifital, such as reducing chances of uterus cancer, etc.

Condoms: No effect on fertility at all.

Diana :)

Expertise

I love questions on condoms, the pill, what to do if contraception fails, if you could be pregnant, obtaining contraception (Even without parental permission). I have a lot of experience with teenagers. One thing I don't know too much about is the IUD, but I'm working on it. I really do care about the people that ask me questions! I don't mind lots of follow up, and I like to know if things turned out okay. I'll be with you every step of the way!
