Birth Control - Birth control and Plan B

Expert: Diana Archer - 7/5/2009

Question
Hi,
I started my period on Thursday 6/25/09 and started my Sunday start pack of Orth tri-cyclen lo as usual on the 28th. I had unprotected sex on Friday July 3rd. I did not miss any pills but I also have not been taken them at the same time everyday. Sometimes I take them up to 3-4 hours before or after when I am supposed to. Should I take the Plan B pill? I am worried that I if I don't need it I will have problems with abnormal periods as I have had hormonal issues in the past including ovarian cysts. But I also don't want to risk getting pregnant. Should I take the plan B?

Answer
Hey,
No I think you shouldn't take it, cause with most pills it's okay to take it a few hours late, as long as it is within 12 hours of the time you are meant to take it.
However, if you are really worried, take plan B, as it may make your periods a bit abnormal, but it will ensure you are totally safe.

Diana
