Birth Control/Heavy spotting after missing a pill.

Question
Hello.
I recently got a new Rx for pills.  I have been on them 2
years and this is my third year set. I was on my period and
was not able to start the pill until one day after I was
supposed to.  (I am a monday start and could not start until
tuesday).  Also, about 2 days ago, I missed a pill but took
2 pills 24 hours later. I have had fairly heavy, brown
bleeding; since then- I am tempted to use a tampon. It is
not as heavy as a regular period, but more than just
spotting.
It is now nearly a week later and this spotting has
continued. I am frustrated about that it may continue
straight through my period. Should I wait for vaginal
intercourse until I start a new pack?  I think I should, but
I want to know what my risks are exactly...

Thank you.

Answer
Dear Michelle,

Thanks for your question. I'm not a doctor but perhaps you should consult your physician about this and any other health matters.

As to missing the pill or the other time, this does not seem to me to be of much concern. But I suppose you do know that there is no 100% guarantee even when you take the pill correctly that you could prevent pregnancy. There is no method that does that except abstinence.

Check with your doctor about the bleeding and consider going on a non-hormonal kind of birth control method or consider abstinence. You may email me at DCHERYL51@yahoo.com and let me know how you are doing. Please put ALLEXPERTS in the subject line of the email.

Sincerely,
Diane Cheryl
