Birth Control/Skipped placebo pills, Pregnancy?

Question
QUESTION: I've been on the pill continuously for over 5 years.  Last month, I skipped my placebo pills and went straight into a new pack in order to delay my period for a trip.  (My period came anyway). I expected to have my period again when I took my next cycle of placebo pills but it did not come.  I started a new pack of pills this month but now I'm having pregnancy symptoms.  Could I be pregnant?

ANSWER: If you didn't miss any pills, pregnancy is very unlikely, but possible.  Sometimes a period doesn't come on the pill.  Since you're having pregnancy symptoms, I would do a test (first morning urine).  It will usually be positive by the time you miss your period or have symptoms.  If it's negative, I would believe it and keep taking the pill.

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply.  What do you think could be the reason for the pregnancy symptoms then?  I'm having soreness in the breasts, cramping that feels similar to ovulation, lower back ache, and a white discharge.  I have already missed the period.

Answer
If you haven't done a pregnancy test, I would do one.  Assuming it's negative, I'm not sure how to explain your symptoms.  Sometimes stress will cause similar symptoms.  If they persist, I'd see your doctor to see if he/she can find a reason.  Sorry I can't be more helpful.
