Question
hey, I have just started the 21 day pill (microgynon 30), and has followed all
instructions by starting it the day I start my period and every day. its now the
10th day I'm on the pill and I still have my period. it usually lasts 5 days and
I'm only 16. I'm scared there's something wrong with me or the pill has failed.
I have also noticed that I might have a urine infection where it feels as if I'm
burning after going to the loo. its really unplesant and not sure whether its
because of the pill? I'm totally confused and really need advice? please.
thank you x

Answer
Hey,

Yeah it's probably related to you starting the pill.
Periods take a while to adjust to the pill, so don't panic.
See your doctor as soon as possible, because they'll be able to correctly diagnose you, but I suspect it's just your body adjusting.

As for the burning, that sounds like a Uriney Tract Infection.
These are very common. They can be prevent by peeing straight after sex, and by going pee as soon as you feel you need to, and wiping so that faecel matter doesn't come near the vagina.

It can be cured by:
- Over the counter treatments
- Drinking a lot of water
- Drinking cranberry juice

Expertise

I love questions on condoms, the pill, what to do if contraception fails, if you could be pregnant, obtaining contraception (Even without parental permission). I have a lot of experience with teenagers. One thing I don't know too much about is the IUD, but I'm working on it. I really do care about the people that ask me questions! I don't mind lots of follow up, and I like to know if things turned out okay. I'll be with you every step of the way!
