Question
my boyfriend and i have been using a condom everytime we have sex, simply because everytime we do have sex it seems to be when my birth control pill hasnt exactly kicked in yet. On friday, saturday and sunday, we had unprotected sex sevral times. My pill packet finnishes on tuesday, but i was wondering how many days after i have sex that i'm supppose to take the pill for. also i went on holidays the week before and had prickley heat, so i started taking antihistamine tablets on the sunday or monday before the friday we had sex, and stoped taking them on the wednesday, would that have afected my pill?

i dont know why but i've become really paraniod now that my pill hasnt worked, i'm only 16 and i'm really not ready. i'm sorry if i sound like an idiot right now, but i'm just really worried.

thank you very much,
meg x

Answer
Hey sweetie,

At your age, you should ALWAYS use a condom, to prevent accidents from happening! You should take the pill every day.

I don't think antihistamine tablets affect the pill. It's normal to be paranoid, so use a condom every time, to be safe.

Expertise

I love questions on condoms, the pill, what to do if contraception fails, if you could be pregnant, obtaining contraception (Even without parental permission). I have a lot of experience with teenagers. One thing I don't know too much about is the IUD, but I'm working on it. I really do care about the people that ask me questions! I don't mind lots of follow up, and I like to know if things turned out okay. I'll be with you every step of the way!
