Birth Control/Confusion

Question
Hey there :)

When I was 16 I started taking "The Pill" and eventually at 17 years of age I decided to start having the Depo shot.  Now being 21 years old I'm not sure it's doing my body any good having constant shots since the age of 17 and I've gained a lot of weight and when I try and come off it, it makes me feel sick and dizzy all the times with awful cramps.  Do you recommend any other form of contraception (Except condoms, The pill and Depo)?
My boyfriend and I want to try for a baby in the next couple of years so I want something safe that will wear off faster than Depo.

Sorry for the long question.

Thank You
Laura

Answer
Hey,

That wasn't a long question, it's one of the shortest I've had lately!
A form of contraception I could reccomend for you is the NuvaRing. It is a ring that you insert into your vagina monthly, and it releases hormones. It should not be able to be felt when inserted (Sort of like a tampon) and should not fall out. It has side effects, which are very similar to the pill. What contraception you use is a very personal choice, but I think that this would be a very good option for you.

However, it has had some bad press. Research the contraversy, and decide if it's what you want. Your doctor can prescribe it for you.

Expertise

I love questions on condoms, the pill, what to do if contraception fails, if you could be pregnant, obtaining contraception (Even without parental permission). I have a lot of experience with teenagers. One thing I don't know too much about is the IUD, but I'm working on it. I really do care about the people that ask me questions! I don't mind lots of follow up, and I like to know if things turned out okay. I'll be with you every step of the way!
